The town sits on the Gulf of Orosei on Sardinia’s east coast and has a small fishing and passenger harbour (Marina di Orosei). Named beaches and coastal stretches within about 15 km include Cala Liberotto and several sandy stretches near the town. The Oasi di Bidderosa (a protected coastal reserve of dunes, maquis and small coves) lies within the local coastal area. The coastline is used for summer tourism and boat excursions along the Gulf of Orosei. Inland within the 15 km radius the terrain is low coastal plain with Mediterranean maquis, olive groves, pasture and small agricultural plots. The nearest larger service centre is Nuoro (provincial capital) about 50 km inland, with provincial administration, a hospital and regional road connections. The area is known regionally for its beaches, seaside tourism and local pastoral/agricultural products.
