The coast here has low rocky shores and beaches including the Portopaglietto area, and the old Spanish tower of Portoscuso stands on the seafront. The former tuna fishery of Su Pranu is a known historic site in the town. Within about 15 km are the industrial waterfront and port installations linked to the Sulcis mining and metals district, and the low coastal plain around Carbonia begins inland. Carbonia is the nearest town of size, with the main services and a mining-history setting tied to the coal basin of Sulcis. The area is known for tuna fishing history, the old mining district, and ferry links from nearby Calasetta to San Pietro.
