The cluster is on the Tyrrhenian coast at the mouth of the Garigliano river, with long sandy shoreline and low coastal plain. Inland, Monte d’Oro and the first Aurunci hills rise behind the coast, and the Monti Aurunci Regional Park is within the local hinterland. The nearest larger centres are Formia and Gaeta, which provide rail links, port services, full retail and hospitals. The Roman archaeological area of Minturnae is here, with the remains of the ancient city and theatre. This stretch of coast is known for beach resorts, the Garigliano estuary and the meeting of coastal plain with the Aurunci foothills.
