The area sits in the Umbrian valley at the foot of the Monti Martani, with the Valnerina and the first Apennine reliefs close to the east. The Tessino stream cuts through Spoleto and the Nera valley is within the local hinterland. Monteluco, the wooded hill immediately above the town, is a protected area and part of the local landscape residents use directly. The nearest ski lifts are the small lifts at Forca Canapine in the Sibillini area, roughly an hour and a half away, so they do not define the setting. Spoleto itself is the nearest town of size and has a substantial historic centre, the Roman theatre, the Rocca Albornoziana, and the Ponte delle Torri. The area is known for olive groves on the slopes, the Spoletini hills, and for the Festival dei Due Mondi held in the town.
