Bilocale

The cluster is in the Modenese sector of the northern Apennines. Monte Cimone (2,165 m), the highest peak in Emilia-Romagna, lies within about 15 km. The area sits in the Alto Appennino Modenese regional park (Parco regionale dell'Alto Appennino Modenese). Nearest ski lifts are on the Monte Cimone / Sestola ski area; driving from Fanano to the main lifts is roughly 20–30 minutes depending on road conditions. Local terrain is Apennine ridges and forested valleys with a pattern of small hamlets and mountain agriculture; hiking and winter-sports trails and infrastructure are present in the surrounding mountains. Nearest larger communes for services include Pavullo nel Frignano and Sestola; the provincial capital Modena is the nearest city of substantial size (about an hour's drive). There is no UNESCO or national 'Borghi più belli' designation for Fanano itself.
