The local terrain is hilly to mountainous with mixed woodland and agricultural land, including vineyards in the wider Oltrepò zone. This part of the province is part of the Lombard Apennines, with higher summits and mountain villages to the south and southwest of the cluster. There is no major national park immediately adjacent to the cluster; the landscape is the small-valley, ridge-and-woodland type typical of the Apennine side of Pavia. The nearest sizeable town is Voghera, which offers rail links (Milan–Genoa line), larger shops and hospital services; the provincial capital Pavia and the city of Piacenza are the nearest cities for specialist services. The area is known regionally for Oltrepò Pavese wine production, chestnut and forest resources, and for outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling on secondary roads and trails.
