The area is the Valle d’Itria, a karst plateau of low limestone hills with trulli, dry-stone walls, olive groves and small fields around scattered contrade. Cisternino has a preserved historic centre on a ridge, and Ostuni and Martina Franca are the nearest larger towns with extensive old centres and services. Alberobello, within about 15 km, is a UNESCO site for the Trulli of Alberobello. The Adriatic coast is nearby around Torre Canne and the Savelletri-Monopoli stretch, but the cluster is inland rather than on the shore. The area is known for trulli, olive oil and mixed rural landscapes of the Murgia dei Trulli.
