Villa

The cluster sits in Carnia in the Carnic Alps (Alpi Carniche); high mountain ridges and alpine terrain are within about 15 km. It occupies Val Pesarina, a side valley in the Tagliamento river basin, with small mountain streams locally. Parts of the Friulian Dolomites / Parco Naturale delle Dolomiti Friulane are in the same mountain area and reachable from the cluster. Mountain hiking routes, alpine pastures and mountain huts are common in the surrounding valleys; organised downhill ski facilities in the small Carnia resorts are available in the broader area (larger ski complexes lie further away). The nearest town of size is Tolmezzo, the main Carnia service centre, which provides shops, markets, secondary schooling and medical/administrative services. The area is traditionally oriented to mountain farming, forestry, local cheese and timber crafts and retains strong Carnian cultural traditions.
