The area around
Location score 72/100The settlement sits at the southern edge of the Gargano promontory, a karst massif projecting into the Adriatic Sea. The local coast features sandy beaches, rocky headlands and small fishing harbours; the coastal town of Rodi Garganico is nearby. Parco Nazionale del Gargano covers a large part of the promontory to the north and includes forested zones such as the Foresta Umbra and protected coastal stretches. The Laguna di Varano (a coastal lagoon) and associated wetland and coastal habitats lie on the northern side of the promontory. The surrounding countryside within reach is a mosaic of olive groves, vineyards and arable fields; fishing and seasonal coastal tourism are significant local activities. Nearest larger service towns on the promontory include Rodi Garganico and Manfredonia (which has a port with ferry links to the Tremiti islands); the provincial capital is further inland. The terrain in the immediate area is low hills and coastal plain rather than high mountains; there are no ski facilities.
