The cluster lies in the Campidano plain west of Cagliari, with low hills and the Monte Arcosu massif within the surrounding area. The Cixerri river plain and the Santa Gilla lagoon system are nearby. Monte Arcosu is a WWF reserve and part of the larger forested uplands that continue toward the Sulcis mountains. Cagliari is the nearest city of size, with the port, airport, hospitals, universities and the main services of southern Sardinia. The area is known for agriculture on the plain and for the wetland and wooded upland environments on the edge of the metropolitan area.
