It is inside the Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise National Park, with beech forest, high pastures and peaks including Monte Marsicano and the ridge systems around the upper Sangro basin. Pescasseroli has a local ski area on Monte delle Vitelle immediately above the town. The area is one of the main access points to the national park and is known for wildlife including Marsican brown bear, Apennine wolf and chamois, and for transhumance landscapes and mountain tourism. Avezzano is the nearest larger town with broader services, while Sulmona is another main town used for services and rail connections.
