Monte Linas and the Linas massif are within about 15 km to the north-east, and the Marganai forest area begins nearby; this is part of the Monte Linas–Marganai zone of south-west Sardinia. The Cixerri river valley runs through this part of the province. Iglesias is the nearest town of size, with a substantial historic centre and services. The area is known for cork oak woodland, old mining landscapes, and in Villamassargia itself for the large S'Ortu Mannu olive grove with very old olive trees.
