The Ligurian Apennines surround Sassello, with wooded ridges and passes inside the Beigua massif. The Beigua Regional Nature Park lies directly around the area, and the Beigua massif is also part of the UNESCO Global Geopark. The upper courses of streams that descend either toward the Ligurian coast or toward the Bormida valley shape the local terrain. The nearest ski area is at Prato Nevoso in the Maritime Alps, well beyond the local 15 km radius and not part of the immediate landscape. Acqui Terme is the nearest larger town of note inland, while Savona and Genoa provide the main coastal services farther away. Sassello is known for chestnut woods and for amaretti production.
