The cluster sits on the Campidano plain at the edge of the Santa Gilla lagoon system, one of the main wetland areas around Cagliari. The Gulf of Cagliari coast is nearby, with the Poetto beach and the beaches around Capoterra and Quartu in the wider bay, but the immediate setting is low flat ground, canals, roads and airport infrastructure. Cagliari is the nearest city and provides the full range of services, a large historic centre, port and main transport links for southern Sardinia. The area is known for the lagoon environment and birdlife, especially flamingos, and for being the transport gateway of southern Sardinia because of the airport.
