This is vineyard hill country of the Monferrato and the Belbo-Tanaro uplands, with a dense pattern of ridges, small valleys, farmhouses and wine villages. The Belbo valley is nearby, and the Tanaro runs farther west toward Asti and Alessandria. The nearest larger town is Asti, with full services, rail links and a substantial historic centre. Nizza Monferrato is close by and is one of the market towns of this wine area. This part of Astigiano is known for Barbera d'Asti vineyards and wine production, and for mixed vine-and-hazel countryside typical of southern Piemonte. The vineyard landscapes of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato have UNESCO status, and this area falls within the wider Monferrato wine landscape.
