This is inland central Sicily in a belt of cultivated hills and clay uplands between Caltanissetta and the Agrigento side of the island. The Platani river basin is nearby, with grain fields, olive groves and sulphur-mining country shaping the landscape around Serradifalco, Milena and Canicattì. Caltanissetta is the nearest larger town, with services, schools, hospital and rail links. The area is known for cereals, olive oil and the historic sulphur mines of the interior.
