Quadrilocale in Montecatini Val di Cecina

The cluster sits in the Colline Metallifere (the Metalliferous Hills), a low volcanic-derived hill range of inland Tuscany. It occupies the Val di Cecina landscape (the Cecina valley) and the local terrain includes mixed woodland, olive groves, vineyards and small arable plots. The Larderello/Pomarance geothermal area and associated power plants and museum lie in the same hill system and are among the modern industrial features of the surrounding countryside. The zone has a long history of mining and mineral extraction (metalliferous and sulphur/lignite workings) with disused mine sites and related infrastructure in the area. There are no ski facilities; road access ties the hamlet to nearby comuni rather than to mountain resorts. The nearest larger municipal centre is Pomarance, which supplies shops, municipal services and local connections to the wider province.
