The cluster is in the inland hills around Caltanissetta, in a landscape of cultivated ridges, cereal fields and clay badlands typical of central Sicily. The Salso river valley lies in this part of the province. Caltanissetta is the nearest town of size and has the full set of services, a historic centre, churches and everyday retail. This inland area is known historically for sulphur mining and for grain farming.
