This is on the Gulf of Gela coast, with long sandy shoreline and the mouth area of the Gela river nearby. The Biviere di Gela nature reserve lies just outside the town and is a coastal wetland with a brackish lake and bird habitat. Gela is itself the nearest large town and has the services of a city, a historic centre, the Greek archaeology of ancient Gela, and an archaeological museum. The area is known for its coast, wetland reserve and archaeology, but the cluster sits in the built-up area of a city over 50,000 residents.
