This is inland south-central Sicily, with low clay and limestone hills, cereal fields, olive groves and scattered farmhouses. The nearest larger towns are Canicattì and Caltanissetta, which provide the main services, rail links and hospitals. The area is known for traditional grain-growing and olive cultivation in the Sicilian interior.
