The cluster is in the built-up area of Caserta, so the lived setting is an urban plain at the foot of the Campanian Apennine foothills. The Monti Tifatini rise immediately to the north of the city. The Reggia di Caserta and its park are in the city, and the royal complex is part of the UNESCO listing of the 18th-Century Royal Palace of Caserta with the park, the Aqueduct of Vanvitelli and the San Leucio complex. Caserta is the nearest town of size and has the services of a provincial capital. The area is known above all for the Bourbon royal palace and the silk tradition of San Leucio.
