The cluster lies in the upper Volturno valley at the foot of the Matese mountains. The Volturno river runs through this part of the plain. The Matese Regional Park covers the mountain area east and north of Alife, with limestone massifs, upland pastures and forested slopes within this radius. The nearest ski area is Campitello Matese, roughly 1 hour to 1 hour 20 minutes by road depending on the exact route. Piedimonte Matese is the nearest larger town, with a full set of everyday services and a railway connection. Alife itself is known for its Roman street grid and surviving Roman walls.
