This is the upper Volturno area at the foot of the Campanian Apennine foothills, with low cultivated hills and broad valley floor around the Volturno basin. The Roccamonfina volcanic massif lies within the local landscape to the west, and the Parco Regionale di Roccamonfina e Foce Garigliano begins nearby around the mountain. Teano is the nearest historic town of note, with an old centre, Roman remains and services; Capua and Caserta are farther away for a larger urban offer. The area is known for mixed farming, chestnuts and olives on the volcanic slopes, and for the position on the inland route between Campania and Lazio.
