Mount Etna rises directly to the east of Bronte, and the town sits on the western side of the volcano in the upper Simeto valley. The Simeto river runs through this part of the province. The Parco dell’Etna begins on the eastern side of the town’s territory and is the main protected landscape in daily view and reach. The nearest ski lifts are on Etna around Piano Provenzana or Rifugio Sapienza, reached by a mountain drive of roughly an hour or more depending on road conditions. Adrano and Randazzo are the nearest historic centres of some size, and Catania is the main city used for higher-level services and transport. This area is known above all for pistachio cultivation linked to the lava soils of Etna.
