Mount Etna rises immediately east of Bronte, and the town sits on the western side of the volcano in the upper Simeto valley. The Simeto river runs through this area. Parco dell'Etna begins close by on the volcano's slopes. The nearest ski lifts are on Etna around Piano Provenzana and Rifugio Sapienza, roughly about 1 to 1.5 hours by road depending on conditions and the side of the mountain used. Adrano is the nearest sizeable town nearby, while Catania is the main city for higher-order services and the airport. This area is known across Italy for pistachio cultivation, especially the Pistacchio Verde di Bronte PDO.
