The cluster is in the built-up area of Agrigento, so the resident landscape is an urban hill city above the southern Sicilian coast. The Mediterranean coast is a few kilometres away, with the shoreline at San Leone and the beaches of the Agrigento area. The Valle dei Templi archaeological area lies immediately outside the urban core, with the ridge of Greek temples above the coastal plain; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Porto Empedocle is the nearest smaller coastal town, and the city itself has the full services of a provincial capital. This part of the province is known for the Valley of the Temples and for the low, dry hills of the southern Sicilian coast.
