The lower Belice valley and the inland hills begin just behind the coast, with olive groves and mixed farmland. The nearest larger town is Agrigento, which provides wider services and rail connections. The archaeological area of Selinunte is up the coast and the temples of Agrigento are farther east, but they are outside the immediate 15 km landscape. Sciacca is known for its fishing fleet, ceramics and thermal waters.
