The area sits between the Ionian coastal strip and the Serre Calabresi, with wooded uplands rising inland within a short distance. The Torrente Ancinale valley is the main local landscape line, running down toward the Ionian near Soverato. The nearest town of size is Soverato on the coast, which has the main local services, railway station, marina and beach frontage. Inland, Serra San Bruno is the best-known centre in the wider mountain area, with the Certosa and large forest surroundings, but it lies beyond the immediate 15 km landscape. This part of Calabria is known for olive groves on the lower slopes, chestnut and beech woods higher up, and for the contrast between the Ionian shore and the inland Serre.
