The area is in the low Ionian hills of central Calabria, with mixed olive groves, fields and wooded slopes. The Ionian coast is nearby, with the Gulf of Squillace the relevant stretch of sea. Within this area the main settlement of size is Soverato on the coast, which has everyday services, a station and a seafront. This part of Calabria is known for olive growing and for small inland villages set above the Ionian shore.
