The cluster is on the Ionian side of Calabria in the low coastal plain around the lower Simeri and Crocchio river area, with long sandy shoreline nearby on the Gulf of Squillace. The Sila foothills rise inland, but the Sila plateau and its main forests and lakes are farther beyond the 15 km landscape. Catanzaro is the nearest city of size, with the usual provincial services, rail links and hospitals. This stretch of coast is known for beach resorts, citrus and olive cultivation, and summer holiday housing.
