The cluster is on the Sila foothills, with the Sila Piccola within the 15 km landscape and the Montagna della Sila immediately inland. It sits inside the Sila National Park area. The nearest substantial town is Catanzaro, which provides the full range of services and administrative functions. This part of Calabria is known for forested uplands, chestnut and beech woods, and upland lakes farther into the Sila. Taverna is also associated with Mattia Preti, who was born here.
