The area is on the Ionian side of Calabria between the lower hills and the Gulf of Squillace. The coast at Montepaone Lido and the long Ionian beaches are within the local radius. Inland, the first Serre Calabresi hills rise a short distance behind the coast. Soverato is the nearest town of size, with a seafront, marina, rail station and the main services for this stretch of coast. Catanzaro is the larger provincial city used for higher-level services and administration. This part of the gulf is known for beach resorts, olive groves and citrus on the coastal strip and lower hills.
