The Amato valley and the Tyrrhenian side of the isthmus are nearby, and the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia coast is reached in a short drive but is outside the immediate 15 km landscape. Parco Nazionale della Sila begins not far to the east, but the core park landscapes are farther into the plateau. The nearest substantial town is Lamezia Terme, which has the area’s main rail junction, motorway access and airport. This part of Calabria is known for chestnut woods, mixed hill farming and small upland villages.
