Licata is on the south coast of Sicily at the mouth of the Salso and near the mouth of the Dirillo, with sandy beaches and low limestone headlands around the town. Monte Sant’Angelo rises immediately above the built-up area with Castel Sant’Angelo on the hill. Torre di Gaffe and Falconara mark the coastal stretch east of town, and the area is known for fishing, a working port and agriculture on the coastal plain and nearby hills. Agrigento is the nearest larger provincial centre, with the Valley of the Temples farther west on the coast.
