The nearest ski lifts are the small lifts at Villaggio Palumbo on Lake Ampollino, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes by road, so they are not a local landscape feature. The nearest town of some size is Soveria Mannelli, which has everyday services and a station on the Cosenza–Catanzaro line. Tiriolo, to the south, is known for its ridge position between the Tyrrhenian and Ionian sides of Calabria.
