The Moro River reaches the sea just south of Ortona. Ortona is the nearest town of size, with a port, a walled historic centre on a bluff above the sea, and the Cathedral of San Tommaso. The area is known for vineyards and olive groves on the coastal hills and for Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine. The Maiella massif is inland but beyond the immediate coastal landscape.
