The area is in the lower Abruzzo hills between the Trigno and Sinello valleys, with the Adriatic side of the Apennines visible more inland. The Sinello river valley is nearby, and the coast around San Salvo and Vasto is about 20 km away but outside the immediate landscape radius. The nearest larger town is Vasto, which has a full range of services, a railway station on the Adriatic line, and a historic centre on a ridge above the sea. Palmoli is known locally for its hilltop old centre and ducal castle.
