The Sangro valley and the foothills of the Maiella are the main setting here, with wooded hills and cultivated slopes around the village. Lake Bomba lies by the town on the Sangro. The Maiella National Park begins to the west, with the mountain massif visible from this part of inland Chieti. The nearest ski area is Passolanciano-Maielletta on the Maiella, roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter by road depending on the route. The nearest larger town is Lanciano, which has a substantial historic centre, services and rail links; Atessa is also a nearby service town. The area is known for olive groves, hill farming and the reservoir landscape of Lake Bomba.
