The area is a line of farmed hills between the Sangro valley and the Adriatic side of southern Abruzzo. The Sangro river runs to the south and the Maiella massif rises inland to the west; the nearest ski lifts are at Passolanciano-Maielletta on the Maiella, roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter by road. The nearest larger town is Lanciano, which has a substantial historic centre, services and rail connections on the coast via nearby stations. The coast is at the Costa dei Trabocchi around Fossacesia and San Vito Chietino, about 15 km away from this part of Atessa. The wider area is known for olive groves, vineyards and mixed hill farming, with industry concentrated lower down in the Sangro valley.
