The Riserva Naturale Regionale Punta Aderci lies just north of town, protecting a stretch of dune, beach and low coastal headland. South of Vasto the coast continues toward the Marina di Vasto and San Salvo seafront. Vasto is a substantial town with a historic centre on higher ground above the sea, a port area, and full daily services. The historic centre includes the Castello Caldoresco and Palazzo d'Avalos with its gardens and museums. The area is known for the Trabocchi Coast, with traditional fishing structures along parts of the shoreline.
