The area sits on the inland hills above the Sangro valley, with the Maiella massif visible to the west and the lower Adriatic hills running east toward the coast. The Sangro is the main river system nearby. The Maiella National Park begins to the west, with its nearest mountain access and ski lifts around Passolanciano and Majelletta at roughly an hour’s drive. The nearest larger town is Lanciano, which has a substantial historic centre, services and rail connections; Atessa and the Sangro valley also provide everyday services and industry. This part of Abruzzo is known for olive groves, vineyards and hill villages, and Tornareccio itself is known for contemporary mosaics and for honey production.
