The area is a belt of low hills between the lower Trigno valley and the Adriatic coast. The Trigno river is nearby and forms the southern edge of this part of Abruzzo. The coast around San Salvo and Vasto is the nearest sea frontage, with sandy beaches and a developed seafront. Vasto is the nearest town of size, with a substantial historic centre, services, a marina area and the larger shopping and transport functions for the zone. Inland from the coast the landscape is mainly agricultural, with olive groves, fields and scattered villages on ridge tops. This part of southern Abruzzo is known for olive oil, vineyards and the meeting of hill country with the Adriatic littoral.
