The cluster sits in the lower foothills between the Sangro valley and the first ridges of the Abruzzo Apennines. The Sangro river runs nearby. The Maiella massif rises inland to the west, and the outer slopes of the Maiella are within this radius. The Maiella National Park begins farther inland around the mountain proper, outside the immediate area. The nearest sizeable town is Lanciano, which has a substantial historic centre, services, and rail and road links. This part of Abruzzo is known for olive groves and vineyards on rolling hills, and for the peperone dolce di Altino.
