The Maiella National Park begins farther inland, and the mountain is a constant presence to the west, but the protected high mountain landscape is outside the immediate 15 km radius. Ortona is the nearest larger town, with a port, rail station and services. This part of Abruzzo is known for wine production, especially Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and olive oil.
