The cluster is on the eastern side of the Maiella massif, with the Maiella mountains and the slopes above the Aventino valley within the local landscape. The Aventino river valley is the main nearby geographic feature. The Maiella National Park lies close by on this side of inland Chieti province. The nearest ski area is Passolanciano-Maielletta on the Maiella, roughly an hour's drive depending on road conditions. The nearest town of some size is Casoli, which has everyday services and a castle in its historic centre; Lanciano is the larger town for hospitals, schools and rail connections. This area is known for mountain villages, forested slopes, shepherding country and views across the inland Abruzzo hills toward the Adriatic side.
