The surrounding landscape is the steep lake-and-mountain terrain of the northern Lario, with the Lepontine Alps close behind the lakeside settlements. The lake is the dominant feature within a few kilometres, and the head of the lake around Domaso, Gravedona ed Uniti and Sorico is part of daily life for services and access. The nearest larger centre is Colico at the north end of the lake, with rail links, supermarkets and everyday services, and Menaggio and Como are farther down the lake.
