This is inland south-central Sicily in the farmed hills between the Platani and Salso basins. The nearest town of size is Canicattì, which has the usual services and rail links; Licata on the coast is the nearest seaside town with a port. The wider area is known for cereal fields, vineyards and olive groves, and for the old sulphur-mining belt around the Agrigento-Caltanissetta interior.
