The cluster sits in the Intelvi Valley between Lake Como and Lake Lugano, in the foothills of the pre-Alps. Lake Como is close on the east side of the valley and Lake Lugano on the west, with mountain roads dropping to both shores within the local area. Monte Generoso rises above the area on the Swiss side of the ridge and Sighignola is one of the main local viewpoints on the crest. The nearest ski area is the small Monte Sighignola zone on the ridge, while the larger Alpine resorts are much farther away and do not define the immediate landscape. Como is the nearest city of size, with rail services, hospitals and the main urban services for the area. The valley is known for chestnut woods, stone villages and mountain walking between the two lakes.
