The cluster is in the built-up area of Agrigento, so the resident setting is urban streets on a ridge near the south coast. The Valle dei Templi lies immediately outside the modern city, with a long line of Greek temple remains on the ridge above the sea plain. The Mediterranean coast is close, including the shore at San Leone. Porto Empedocle is the nearest coastal town of size. The area is known for the archaeological landscape of ancient Akragas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
