This is the upper Po plain between the Groane and the Brianza-Comasco urban belt. The Parco delle Groane lies partly within the Turate area and protects heath, pine woods and former sand and clay workings on flat ground. The nearest larger towns are Saronno and Como; Saronno provides rail links and services, while Como is the nearest provincial city with the lakefront and historic centre farther north. The area is known more for its dense small-town fabric, industry and commuter connections toward Milan than for a distinctive rural or scenic landscape.
